Model-based traffic and emission control using PWA models - A mixed-logical dynamic approach

چکیده
For the purpose of traffic control a piecewiseaffine (PWA) approximation of the METANET model is proposed and tested in a model-based predictive control (MPC) framework. This approximation is provided as an alternative to the rather intensive computations when using the original nonlinear nonconvex METANET traffic flow model extended with a model for vehicular emissions and fuel consumption in an MPC context. As a direct PWA-MPC computation turned out to be intractable for on-line applications due to the size of the final, full PWA model that consists of a large number of PWA regions, the PWA model equations were additionally converted into a mixed-logical dynamic (MLD) model. The resulting MLDMPC problem – written as a mixed-integer linear program (MILP) – can be solved much more efficiently as it does not explicitly state all model equations for each particular region. In a simple case study on a traffic network including a variable speed limit and an un-metered on-ramp while optimizing the total time spent (TTS), we compared the performance of the approximate MLD-MPC approach to that of model predictive traffic control when using the original nonlinear formulation of the METANET model.

Hybrid model predictive control of a nonlinear three-tank system based on the proposed compact form of piecewise affine model
In this paper, a predictive control based on the proposed hybrid model is designed to control the fluid height in a three-tank system with nonlinear dynamics whose operating mode depends on the instantaneous amount of system states. The use of nonlinear hybrid model in predictive control leads to a problem of mixed integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) which is very complex and time consuming t...

Abstract This paper presents the State Partition based Mixed Logical Dynamical (SPMLD) formalism as a new modeling technique for a class of discrete-time hybrid systems, where the system is defined by different modes with continuous and logical control inputs and state variables, each model subject to linear constraints. The reformulation of the predictive strategy for hybrid systems under the ...

As an alternative to the rather intensive computations when using the nonlinear traffic flow model METANET in a model-based predictive control context, a piecewise-affine (PWA) approximation of the model is proposed. Here, several model equations amongst which the fundamental diagram are approximated by a PWA function. Some selected methods to determine this approximation are shortly discussed....

In this paper we integrate the macroscopic traffic flow model METANET with the microscopic dynamic emission and fuel consumption model VT-Micro. We use the integrated models in the model predictive control (MPC) framework to reduce exhaust emissions, fuel consumption, and travel time using dynamic speed limit control. With simulation experiments we demonstrate the countereffects and conflicting...
متن کاملAn Optimal Dynamic Control Method for an Isolated Intersection Using Fuzzy Systems
Traffic flow systems are nonlinear and uncertain, so it is very difficult to find their optimal points. In traditional traffic control systems, the traffic lights of crossings change in a fixed time period that is not optimal. On the other hand, most proposed systems are sufficiently capable of coping with the uncertainties of traffic flow. To solve this problem, there is a need to develop expe...
